temp pic Whoa! Didn't see ya there, I just woke up from my second midday nap. I am Ben! And I am your ROC president! I'm a Chem-E and I have been in ROC since my freshman year, so I am a tried and true member. I enjoy all things that the world around me has to offer, whether it be whitewatering (big fan), skiing (very big fan), ice skating (also a big fan), or caving (I. am. a. very. big. fan.) I love getting outside and having a good time. When I'm not lurking down in the pit (come visit me in the pit!), you can probably find me making maple syrup, or in a cave somewhere, or taking a little snooze, or out snowmobiling, or maybe (just maybeee) if the weather is just right, you can find me taking my questionable canoe down some fun rapids. And finally, if you are having a garden party in the near future, or perhaps a backyard cookout, please let me know so I can attend in my finest "Connecticut Casual" attire.

Things I hadn't tried before joining ROC:

  • Caving
  • Whitewater anything
  • Ice Climbing

My favorite thing about the club:
  • The Pit

Fun Facts:
  • I like frozen water in every form
  • I make maple syrup

Cairn Editor

Katherine Gibson

Email: gibsok@rpi.edu

Bio:

Hey y’all! I’m Katherine and I am your very own Cairn Editor. I’m from the amazing Lone Star state of Texas where I love to play with all the “cool” rocks and grow “cool” plants. I enjoy a variety of outdoor activities in all the seasons, and whether I’m hiking, skiing, or out on the water, I’m always wearing my Tevas. Which you should know are better than Chacos, and if you didn’t, I’ll tell you every chance I get. When I’m not outside, I enjoy cooking and doing all sorts of crafts, like making candles and embroidery. Catch me in a rad pair of embroidered denim overalls! Mamma mia, here I go again: “Write for the Cairn!” Best submission gets a jar of Troy’s finest boiled peanuts.

Member at Large

Abby Ross

Email: rossa7@rpi.edu

Bio:

temp pic Sup, my name’s Abby. I’m a junior Biology major and I’m pretty cool. I love hiking, backpacking, winter mountaineering, walking, walking up steep surfaces, running, running up steep surfaces, you get the point… I feel most comfortable when I’m pulling out my pocket-sized electronic microscope to observe the super rare nanobacteria I just discovered on the summit of Mt. Washington. Oh yeah, btw I’m a NH48er AND a NE67er (that means I’ve strolled up a lot of mountains) and now I'm preparing to take over the rivers too! Other things to note about me: I have two adorable dogs, I'm a yogi, and I can eat more than you. Some people call me a hippie and I would have to agree with them. If we go on a trip together we probably won’t take my car because I barely fit in it, but I’ll bring the best chocolate sauce in the world and my EPIC playlist. Catch ya later ma dudes, it’s time to make the best cake on this mountain!

Things I hadn't tried before joining ROC:

  • Caving
  • Ice Climbing

Favorite thing about Outing Club:
  • doing hoodrat things in the mountains with my friends

Fun Facts:
  • I’m a NE67er!
  • I love microbes (ask me anything)
  • Mt Katahdin was voted the second best hike in the world by National Geographic (this isn’t specifically about me but Katahdin is awesome and I’m from Maine)
