Ben Urbanski

Email: urbanb@rpi.edu

Bio:

Whoa! Didn't see ya there, I just woke up from my second midday nap. I am Ben! And I am your ROC president! I'm a Chem-E and I have been in ROC since my freshman year, so I am a tried and true member. I enjoy all things that the world around me has to offer, whether it be whitewatering (big fan), skiing (very big fan), ice skating (also a big fan), or caving (I. am. a. very. big. fan.) I love getting outside and having a good time. When I'm not lurking down in the pit (come visit me in the pit!), you can probably find me making maple syrup, or in a cave somewhere, or taking a little snooze, or out snowmobiling, or maybe (just maybeee) if the weather is just right, you can find me taking my questionable canoe down some fun rapids. And finally, if you are having a garden party in the near future, or perhaps a backyard cookout, please let me know so I can attend in my finest "Connecticut Casual" attire.

Things I hadn't tried before joining ROC:

  • Caving
  • Whitewater anything
  • Ice Climbing

My favorite thing about the club:
  • The Pit

Fun Facts:
  • I like frozen water in every form
  • I make maple syrup

Vice President

Josefina Corripio

Email: corrij3@rpi.edu

Bio:

Heyyo, My name’s Fina but most people call me Josefina. I joined roc as a wee little freshman and am now a junior and outing club’s Vice President. I enjoy hiking, rafting, sleeping, kayaking, sleeping, ice climbing and sometimes sleeping. However, we all know that caving is really the best of the sports and I’d love to talk for hours about it. When I’m not in the wilderness, you can usually find me torturing myself by running up the approach numerous times, hidden in a big cozy blanket, or driving through a hurricane for fun as we Floridians like to do.

Things I hadn't tried before joining ROC:

  • Literally everything
  • I never went outside before college
  • (not even running or hammocking)

My favorite thing about the club:
  • The people! They're all wonderful!
  • Learning all sorts of new skills and finding new hobbies

Fun Facts:
  • I am ranked in the top 1% of all Irish Dancers in the world
  • I can't pick a favorite color, I'm stuck between yellow and blue
  • I get anxious around revolving doors

Brian Anderson

Bio:

Hey! I’m Brian and I’m the ROC treasurer! I joined roc my sophomore year and 3 years later I’m still here! Currently I’m doing coterm to get my MBA. I love caving (ask me about the cave rescue courses I’ve taken), rock climbing, ice climbing, hiking and all sorts of outdoor activities. When I’m not doing roc things I can be found looking a photos of new gear and whispering “soon”

Pit Chair

Tim Schwed

Email: schwet@rpi.edu

Bio:

Hello! I'm Tim, a Co-Term Masters student who has been in the Outing Club for 500 years! Very few people know that I am actually amphibious. Even when the rivers are frozen I can be found kayaking in them. I am also a founding member and the captain of ROC's Varsity Whitewater Swim Team. When the rivers freeze I get sad and have to resort to climbing in the ROC Wall. Ask me what my favorite song is and maybe I'll serenade you. Maybe not. Either way, I think chocolate is gross and microwaved carrots are the best.

Things I hadn't tried before joining ROC:

  • Winter Mountaineering
  • Whitewater Kayaking

Favorite thing about outing club:
  • Learning new things and experiencing situations that push you outside your comfort zone.

Fun Facts:
  • I play volleyball and racquetball

Abby Ross

Email: rossa7@rpi.edu

Bio:

Sup, my name’s Abby. I’m a junior Biology major and I’m pretty cool. I love hiking, backpacking, winter mountaineering, walking, walking up steep surfaces, running, running up steep surfaces, you get the point… I feel most comfortable when I’m pulling out my pocket-sized electronic microscope to observe the super rare nanobacteria I just discovered on the summit of Mt. Washington. Oh yeah, btw I’m a NH48er AND a NE67er (that means I’ve strolled up a lot of mountains) and now I'm preparing to take over the rivers too! Other things to note about me: I have two adorable dogs, I'm a yogi, and I can eat more than you. Some people call me a hippie and I would have to agree with them. If we go on a trip together we probably won’t take my car because I barely fit in it, but I’ll bring the best chocolate sauce in the world and my EPIC playlist. Catch ya later ma dudes, it’s time to make the best cake on this mountain!

Things I hadn't tried before joining ROC:

  • Caving
  • Ice Climbing

Favorite thing about Outing Club:
  • doing hoodrat things in the mountains with my friends

Fun Facts:
  • I’m a NE67er!
  • I love microbes (ask me anything)
  • Mt Katahdin was voted the second best hike in the world by National Geographic (this isn’t specifically about me but Katahdin is awesome and I’m from Maine)
